Should be simple UNICODE question

I have a lib I wrote that compiles as either
dllnameW.lib or dllnameA.lib appropriately,
then within the code I have:
#ifdef _UNICODE
//dostuff W
#else
//dostuff A
#endif
dllnameW.lib has a preprocessor def
of _UNICODE, the app I'm trying to
import with has a preprocessor def of
_UNICODE, so why when ...

I d/loaded a media player called 'VLC', but when I fired it up earlier, it just brings up "error
while loading .dll, unicows.dll". The only option is to terminate.

unicows.lib : debugging information corrupt; recompile module

I have received a source code from client which needs to be build
using VS 6.0. I have been able to successfully compile the code but
get the following link time error:

FGetStringTypeW, Unicode characters differ on XP & 2000

Looking into a bug I discovered that the FGetStringTypeW function returns
different values on the two OS. In particular some characters are listed as
ALPHA on one system but not the other. The most significant is 'ã?¼', part of
the string 'ã??ã?¥ã?¼ã?¨ã?¼ã?¯' which is New York.
On XP the return value is 0x20 ...
