Can't update AutoUpdate

I'm trying to apply the latest patch to Office 2008 but the installer doesn't want to install on my Macv HD partition.
I have a Windows partition also but I'm not using it now.
I think the reason may be that I don't have the latest version of AutoU ...

I use english and portuguse on my computer. On my old pc my word processor/excel/outlook would automatically recognaze the language I was writing on and adapt the dictonary/spelling tool. How can I do this on my new Mac?
