Invisible words

Macintosh Word 2008; OSX 10.5:
Often at the end of a line, generally the first line of a paragraph, the
last inch of words is invisible. When I click on the space the words
appear. More of a nuisance than anything else.
Any solution?

saving as "web page"

when i save a word.doc as "web page" it changes my line-spacing from single to double,
and it won't let me change it back to single!
