downloaded presentations aren't working properly

hello after downloading the recent update last week I realized that when downloading presentations using safari it downloads with the .pps format and so opens in a slide show directly, while when I use firefox it downloads normally .ppt!!! ...

it crashes when i am using an presentation with 500+ slides that i used to view in the year of 2006 with no problem in a titanium g4 1ghz.
now, using the same machine and using an imac core2duo 2.4ghz with 3GB ram it crashes.
