File, Open Project, SoureSafe (LAN) option missing in VS 2005?

I have Visual Studio 2005 and then installed Visual SourceSafe 2005, I
can click File, Open Project, and see the following options on the
left:
Desktop
My Projects
My Computer
SourceSafe (LAN) <--I cannot see this option. I don't recall what has
to be configured or installed in VS 2005?

PDF corrupted in VSS 2005

We have found, after installing VSS 2005, that our .pdf files get corrupted
when moving them into VSS.
If you try to open them directly from or VSS (view or edit) or Get Latest
and open them on your local machine, they are corrupted.
I get the error message:
An unrecognized token '0.0r' was found.

XML file: ($Revision: $) not automatically populating on checkin

I've created a simple XML file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
($Revision: $)-->
<root>
</root>
Tried to check this in, the revision was not put in the comment. Any
ideas? The exact same sysntax ((Revision: $)) works fine in .sql
files for me.

Merging Projects

Is it true that VSS2005 cannot perform a merge on Projects (only single
files) via the GUI and that this has to be done via the command line? That
seems like a huge burden seeing as how what I've read says it won't even do a
recursive merge through subprojects if you use the command line.

My Upgrade Wizard only states "Upgrade failed" and produces a log file I
can't interpret.
Could this be because of the sourcesafe?
I've got VS2005 Team Edition for Developers and rights to our tfs,
but I don't have VB6, VB6 runtime or SourceSafe. ...
