How to tell number of documents in catalog?

I think I have about a million documents in a particular folder (news
articles updated daily). After I moved to Vista, it showed 490,195
items indexed, and it stayed there for a few days, with zero
indication to say whether the indexing is completed, or near

I assume this is also the forum for Vista's index server?
Where's the equivalent of ciadv.msc in Vista? How do I see the number
of documents not yet indexed, and the progress of the indexing
activity, etc?

Transfer of remote results extremely slow

So I have setup an index server machine that has indexed a few hundred
thousand documents.
I am running a desktop .NET app to query the index remotely from
another machine. The code uses the OleDbCommand.ExecuteReader()
function to query the index.
