Error when trying to initialize audio-client (Microphone only!?)

Hi,
I am trying to start a sampling stream, but when attempting to initialize
the audio-client (IAudioClient::Initialize) it returns with the error code
AUDCLNT_E_ENDPOINT_CREATE_FAILED.
I am a little puzzled as to why this is only happening for the Microphone!?
The call does not fail on all systems, but ...

Playing WAV file via Windows Vista Service

We want to play a WAV sound from a service.
Currently, the service is triggered to play a WAV sound file using PlaySound
API :
PlaySound(SoundFile,NULL,SND_FILENAME | SND_ASYNC);
using the Winmm library.

new intel cpus?
If NO:
Is MS planning a corresponding version?
When will it be released approx.?

I've been using the c++ code example found in the WMEncoderSDK help
at the description of IWMEncBasicEdit::put_MarkIn to cut video files.
The code uses IWMEncBasicEdit. (put_MediaFile, put_OutputFile,
put_MarkIn, put_MarkOut, Start...)
