WMP 11 metaservices website not loading in "Find Album Info"

currently running WMP 9 on XP and want to update to v11. however my

Media Player Won't Play DVD

I have an audio DVD ripper that can play my DVDs and allow me
to rip the audio from selected points in the DVD.
But, when I try to play the same DVD in WMP 11 it tells me it
can't play the DVD and to lower my resolution settings and lower my
color settings.
Why will the other program play DVDs but WMP won't?

I am using WMP 11. Here is the behavior I want:
1. Search for a random album.
2. Play first song of album
3. Play next song.
4. Repeat 3 until album is finished.
5. Go back to 1.

I have downloaded a video file from capture the video device and before it could create a file ,computer got switched off and on restart I could get a TEMP file of 2.2 GB against 82 mb wmp. Now, how to convert this file into wmv format? please help

I bought a new computer for my daughter that came with Windows 7 Starter.
When I try to play a DVD with WMP it tells me that I must buy a decoder!
I never had this problem with XP or earlier OS. Can you help?
