Preserving WMP 10

WMP 10 seems to be quite adequate for my needs. How do I avoid any
"forced" or "automatic" upgrade to WMP 11? (I am suspicious of
Microsoft offers of "software improvements" that pop up when I launch
WMP 10; are these real patches for WMP 10, or are they sneaky ways to
slip the much unwanted WMP 11 into my ...

WMP11 Will not Stop Playing After Closing in Vista

When I try to close WMP11 while playing music or a video, the window closes
but the music keeps on playing. I have to open the program and stop the
player in order to shut it off. Seems to have something to do with the
"repeat" play mode since it sometimes shuts down if the "repeat" mode is

Hello,
Previously I was able to play audio and video of .mp4 files in Windows Media
Player 11, Windows XP SP3.
I installed Nero 8 OEM and now only audio will play in .mp4 files in Media
Player.
Suggestions?
I want to use Media Player.
The files will play in Quick Time.

I have uninstalled mediaplayer 11 and reinstalled as well as the same for all
of my codecs but vector like arrows appear all over the screen on playback of
all videos. they look like a visualization yet i have no idea of how to get
rid of them ...

avi files suddenly stopped working

Can Not Play asx/asf Files

Just installed Vista Ultimate on a new machine. WMP11 will not play asx/asf
files. It just says the file can not be opened by the default program (which
is WMP11). In Windows XP, the WMP11 tool menu had a file association tab,
however, in Vista, no file association tab exists. Any ideas will be
