I've read about MCE remote control for Windows Media Center. Most monitors
can be dimmed. How would I send a signal from the MCE remote control to dim a
monitor. Think of it like muting sound. Except in this case I want to reduce

Is this possible? I get my TV via IP into a STB, which only has a HDMI output.
Is there a way to get this into my HTPC (server) and stream it to my
extenders?
Or should I look for option to convert from HDMI to an analog signal (very
expensive + quality loss) and use this input?

Movie flickers or pulsates
