DVD drive not working

Hi. When I try to read a CD or DVD on my laptop the drive starts and spins
for a few seconds then stops without opening the data. 'My Computer' does
not show the disc name and the Total Size and Free Space are both shown as
zero. I know the problem is not the physical drive because when i swapped

VMC: How do I play a DVD?

When VMC is running, I slide my dvd into the drive and close. Nothing
happens.
When I do the same thing with AnyDVD running, nothing happens.
When I wait a little, I click the DVD MENU button the remote and
nothing happens (except the alert ding).
The Play DVD icons never appear in VMC in any of the menus.

Wall mount media extender?

Does there exist a small and compact media extender for
a wall mount LCD TV that would allow one to hook it up
to Ethernet based LAN and watch TV shows and other
videos that reside on main computer (desktop) in
another room?
Id really prefer something that doesn't have a hard
drive.... don't need storage at ...

AVI file abnormality on vista MC

I have an issue with my avi files that I never ran in to before. Looking
for suggestions and advice on how to resolve it.
Scenario:

Sony Vaio shuts down automatically

I have Sony Vaio laptop that has Windows XP Media Center Edition. Recently
through Automatic updates operating system was upgraded to SP3. While
upgrade I did not get any errors. Since last few days, after about a couple
of hours after I start my computer shutdwon window containing stand_by,
turn_off, etc ...
