How to get WMV PlayTime while Recording

Hello All,
My Task is to record Screen. And save it in to WMV format.
Task also includes keep watch on PlatTime of the WMV file while
recording.
Using Windows Media API's I am able to record and save it in to the
file as required. But have not got breakthrough over keeping watch over
PlayTime.

It seems something in Windows Media Player 9 and 10 is broken that prevents
Type 1 DV AVI files from playing. Type 2 DV AVI files play okay and Windows
Media Player 8 can play the Type 1 DV AVI files okay, too.

When ripping cd's in MP3 format media player doesn't allow me to adjust the
slider and adjust the bit rate? is this normal? It allows me to adjust the
bit rate in every other format just not MP3 format? ...

How do I shorten a movie clip that I have downloaded from my digital camera.
Right now its an .avi file that is a minute long and 15.4 MB. In order for
me to send it out it has to be no more than 10 MB. How do I make it
shorter?? And can I make it into a .wmv file? ...
