Media Player Won't Download Files.

On XP with all updates.
Media Player has stopped playing wmv files which are online. It plays
local files. It will download and play avi files from the 'net. On
trying to down load wmv, it will lock up or return an error message

WMP loading with display

The code I am currently seeking- I want to load a web page with embedded
WMP, not autostarting, but displaying a still from the video. It could be
the first frame
My current train of though has me actually autostarting the video, but then
using an 'onload' script to pause the video.

works fine on IE6+, Firefox 2+, but on Safari 3+ for Windows

When I try to see some video in streaming, I only see but I don't hear the
