Stopping streaming in WMP11

I am having the following problem. A friend of mine gave me to fix his PC.
He told me that WMP crashes and he has to reboot the PC every time that
happens.
So far i have not ebserved anything like that.
Is there sth i can do to discover any anomalies that on first looks seems to
be absent

WMP11 crashes when opening video

Recently every time I try to play a video file I see the first frame of the
video and then it crashes. Other times I don't even see the first frame.
WMP11 (11.0.5721.5230) just closes right out. This happened sometime after
upgrading XP to SP3, but not immediately after, and I cannot link the problem

Well, been ripping a few dozen cd's into Windows Media Audio (Lossless)
format... all is well....,
I was checking the properties on some music files, I can see,
inside WMP, audio codecs, ( when you select a song, and select
properties ) under file... I saw the audio codecs, showing
vbr lossless...etc..etc.. ...

WMP 11 in Vista continues to play after closing the player

After viewing any type of video in WMP 11 Vista the player will continue to
play audio from the movie and if you open it up again the movie itself is
still playing.You have to turn it off using Task Manager or Reboot. And under
Applications in Task Manager,You see (defalt IME) and if you choose end
task it ...

Use DivX Player. The files will play.
