Must one run Checkdisk before defrag?

Can chances of machine forcing itself into Checkdisk scan on restart be
reduced by running defragmentor regularly.
Read somewhere that too often use of defragmentor reduces disks life.

Losing internet connection

I keep losing my internet connection when downloading large videos .
When I reboot , everything is fine until I try to download videos
again , but only for 5 min or so .Then I reboot again and everything

Pagefile.sys missing after HD clone

I recently was asked to fix a problem stemming from a drive clone that
ommitted Pagefile.sys on the cloned drive. Without Pagefile.sys the
system will not boot (naturally) nor take one to a point where the file
can be created.

Problems with the Recycle Bin and others

Win98 Upgrade to 2000 - appears to have identity crisis

I upgraded from Win 98 to Win 2000 (Upgrade, not clean install)and installed
the SP 4.
There were plenty of problems, so I reinstalled it.
There appears to be conflicting info about which OS is on the computer.
