I HAVE A DELL DESKTOP PC AND A TOSHIBA LAPTOP.BOTH HAVE WINDOWS XP
PROFESSIONAL. I WANT TO CONNECT BOTH OF THEM TO EACH OTHER SO THAT I CAN
SHARE FILES.
I HAVE INTEL PRO/1000 NETWORK ADAPTERS INSTALLED ON BOTH THE COMPUTERS.
I CONNECTED THEM USING A CROSS CABLE. AND GAVE IP ADDRESS TO BOTH OF THEM.

PC freezes when the domain network disconnected or unavailable

I am using Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
Network is domain with mapped net drives.
When the PC is connected to the domain network it operates smoothly with no
glitches.
However, when I disconnect my laptop from the domai network , laptop freezes
for 10-15 seconds each time. This will happen every 30 s ...

Windows XP Home Edition Sharing/Networking

Since the advanced sharing is unavailable in XP Home, you must boot Windows
in safe mode to configure those settings. I've noticed after configuring
sharing in safe mode, that the settings are not retained when I restart and
boot back up normally.
