Laptop will not stay in sleep/hibernate mode

I have a Gateway laptop running XP Media Edition. For a month now it comes
out of sleep and hibernation without my doing. I can not think of anything I
have updated or changed. Anyone have any solutions?

This is a long story so bear with me... I am looking for info on why this
didn't work the last time and if it's possible for it to work:

Changing my password

The last time I went into "User Accounts" in the control panel and
changed my password, I lost access to my encrypted files. I think this
is because I have Administrator access, and the route I took can be used
to change anyone's password.
I learned to disable the welcome screen, and to change the password ...

Trying to open C:

Today I tried to open C: from My Computer, and I get the "Open with"
screen coming up (Choose the program you want to use to open this file)
window. It only does it on C:, my other hard drive (F:) comes up ok.
If I right click on C:, then on Explore, I still get that window. If I
have the Folders Explorer ...

Task Manager Processes

I recently had my PC "cleaned up" to increase response time. As a result, it
runs faster but when attempting to open selective internet sites (Mapquest,
EBay); the systems appears to start the process and then gets hung up. When I
look at Task manager, the same 35 processes are open.

Live Updates Problem

Greetings all, I noticed I cannot run microsoft updates anymore. And when I
go into run/services.msc to change the setting fro disabled to automatic, it
will not change, therefore I cannot run automatic updates or update anything
from the microsoft website. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

had to create new admin profile

Now need old profile settings to work...I copied all the files, except
ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log and ntuser.ini files from my old profile to the
new profile, however I still can't access my old emails, address book and my
browser settings.
Any help is appreciated.

Explorer.exe corrupted (I think)

Have Windows xp home edition 200G HDD abd 1G RAM
Ran Disk clean and Explorer went funny - asked for application to open with,
and opened with Notepad.
Since then opening desktop screen is blank - no icons or tray. Task manager
shows Explore.exe not running and won't run under New Task - says cannot find
