Automatic Update Icon in System Tray

I am using XP SP2. Automatic updates is turned on. Yesterday, the yellow
shield icon indicating that an update is ready to be installed appeared in
my system tray (beside the clock and volume control). When I clicked on it,
it indicated that Internet Explorer 7 was ready for installation.

Search feature not working Win XP

I was conducting a search on my HP win xp media center personal media drive.
All of a sudden the computer shut down with my Media Drive still connected.
When it came back up search no longer worked on the media drive or on the
computer's C drive. (I only have one hard drive).

I have come across a puzzeling problem. A user has a corporate desktop (XP
Sp2) on the company network. If he tries to do a search on a network drive,
looking for all files with the word S_PARTY then his search comes out with

Default browser problem

I had XP SP2 with all updates automatically installed by Windows Update.
My default browser is Firefox.
Now SP3 has been installed, and something keeps changing the defauklt
back to IE. This is really annoying.
How can I stamp on that? ...

Clipboard retaining almost all Ram memory

Sometimes when I open 2 Explorer windows to copy folders from 1 drive to
another; my system won't copy large amounts of files. I was copying about
30mb of files and Task Manager said EXPLORER is using 1.9gig of Ram. Or if
I'm cutting and pasting 20mb of files or more. How can I release the Ram
from Explor ...

I have a Sony desktop VGC-RA716G with Windows XP MCE2005 SP3 and all
updates installed. Have a Sound Max Integrated Digital Audio. I don't know
it this is integrated with motherboard or is a separate sound card? Sounds
as if it possibly is integrated with MB?
