Calculating a field when creating a new Item

Hello,
I need to establish automatically an ID for each case in my support site. So
I can give that ID to the users to follow up.
I tried to use the date of creation, like merging the numbers of the date,
Example: for 03/03/2006 22:05:40, 03032006220540.
Anyone know how to do that?

Beginners need help

We have had Sharepoint installed on our server. We are a small office of
around 20 people, 10 in Israel, 10 in London and currently expanding to the
US.
We do not have an in house sys admin person.
We have no idea what to do with Sharepoint.

My client would like to increase the number of letters in the link of the
announcement sent in an alert. It seem that it is currently sent at 35
letters. He wants to see the entire title. Can this be do? ...
