Problem trying to upgrade Biztalk 2006 to R2

We tried to perfrom an upgrade of our production Biztalk 2006 Enterprise
Edition server to R2 this morning. We followed the instructions that were

Hi,
I'm preparing to intgrate Peoplesoft 9.0 with MOSS 2007 using BizTalk Server
2K6 R2. As part of this integratin I have finished 3 walkthroughs given in

I have 2 biztalk vmware and a sql server(sits on the Domain Controller not a
vmware) on 3 different machines.
1) should I make the sql server a vmware as well?
2) should the sql server be on the Domain Controller or could it be on a
different machine?
3) if i am already in production and things are running ...
