POP3 Download Error

As there are NT workstations on the network, that haven't been upgraded to
Windows 2000 yet, or do I need Outlook to be 2000 and above for client
connectivity to Exchange 2003 server?

My xp cd has sp2 already on it, install went without problems
everything up and running, installed outlook 2003
and both computers now prompt each user for there
